Aphrodite’s Organic Cafe and Pie Shop – The $19 Vegan Breakfast

Aphrodite’s Organic Cafe and Pie Shop receives great reviews from online restaurant guides, and has been described as the best kept secret for breakfast in Vancouver. It is situated on prestigious West 4th Avenue in Kits, near the beach, and is adorned with adorable, rustic furnishings, but…the breakfast, albeit delicious, was a whopping $19!
I’m sorry Aphrodite’s, but that’s bullsh*t! I understand that you’re using local and organic products, and that your rent costs are probably through the roof, but I’m pretty sure that for around the same price I could feed myself, and three friends, the same meal.
I ordered the Glen Valley breakfast off the regular menu and swapped out the eggs for smoked tofu, for $14. I then foolishly added a sprinkling of Daiya Cheese ($2) and avocado ($3) on the side. The total came to $19 BEFORE tax and tip.
So, If you are in the neighbourhood, and have the money to spend on a simple and expensive vegan meal, by all means give Aphrodite’s a go. Or just give me a ring and I’ll cook you the same breakfast for half the price and include coffee or tea.

I totally agree. We went there and had a soy latte before breakfast with the same substitutions. Bad news blues for the budget. Better to hop up the street and hit the Naam. Maybe not as fresh, and lots more armpit hair, but a dolla’s a dolla!
